Conservation of the Tham Phra Mnt. Ranges

In the years from 1971-1973 to establish the Religious Land Hooppha Sawan, Dr. Suchart Kosolkitiwong had to fight against influential groups, (the 7 Stone Blasting Compa-nies who tried to get permission to blast and smash stones of Tham Phra mountain ranges which were protected national archaelogical sites) while at that time, there was a strict command from the Prime Minister of that time to absolutely forbid blasting the stones of Tham Phra mountain ranges.
Later in 1979, one of the seven influential stone blasting companies proposed to ask for permission to blast and smash stones of the Esan mountain ranges (or Eisan mountain ranges) which were the same mountain ranges as Tham Phra mountain ranges and were close to the Religious Land Hooppha Sawan. Dr. Suchart then wrote to bring the notice to the related office of the government to ask for canceling the permission to blast and smash the mountains. Later, the Fine Art Department ordered the Ratchaburi Governor, dated June 3, 1980 stating their disagreement to destroy the Esan mountain ranges and stating the policy to preserve them. The Ratchaburi Governor of that time then ordered the blasting of the Esan mountain ranges to be cancelled.
By this reason, the stone blasting companies who lost the benefits were displeased with Dr. Suchart, they hired a writer to write books to blame and destroy Dr. Suchart’s fame and published articles in the newspaper to attack him. They proposed allegations that there were military weapons (which they had themselves placed) in the pond in front of the Religious Land Hooppha Sawan and hired the newspaper to publish news of finding military weapons in Hooppha Sawan at the end of the year 1981. But when military officers went to check the said weapons that were recovered from the pond in front of the Religious Land, the weapon’s serial numbers were registered to a corp of border patrol police in Ratchaburi Province. The story of possessing weapons then calmed down. But the newspapers still published news to attack and unjustly blame Dr. Suchart with various mat-ters. Later on December 30th, 1981 (an official holiday) the government office led an order dated December 29th, 1981 to close Hooppha Sawan without stating any facts.
The reasons for Dr. Suchart to be toppled were:
1. He worked to openly fight against communists.
2. He obstructed the progress of Stone Blasting Companies.
3. He obstructed foreign power brokers seeking to control Thailand’s
independence.
4. He obstructed local parties to seize control of Thailand’s domestic politics.
5. He obstructed the graft of officials in the province and locality.
6. He worked above of the government (the analysis of the UN Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs at that moment).
Later in 1984-1985 a stone blasting company proposed to blast and smash stones of
Esan mountain ranges once again, the group of workers for religion and peace then proposed to the authority to cancel the blasting and smashing of stone and to cancel the permission for the mining concession and to cancel the permission to do other activities at the Tham Phra (Suae Mohb) and Eisan (Esan) mountain ranges to all related people. Therefore, the Ratchaburi Governor ordered not to allow the blasting and smashing of stones of Esan mountain ranges as they had managed a new place for them to blast stones.
This was one of many ways Dr. Suchart Kosolkitiwong proceeded to preserve the Tham Phra mountain ranges and protected national archaeological sites to be the national’s property up to now.
